Turning a spark into a flame for Marks & Spencer - Aspect Communications

The Context

‘Sparks Live’ is a regular series of customer engagement events that reward M&S customers for their loyalty with inspiring and topical added-value content. This event in the series was a Platinum Jubilee special containing two core elements – a live streamed show and a 20-minute pre-recorded video shot on location designed to reach as many Sparks members as possible during and following the live show. The video was presented by British chef and M&S food ambassador Chris Baber.

The Challenge

Being set at Osborne House on the Isle of White, famously one of Queen Victoria’s holiday homes, gave the video a celebratory and traditionally British feel befitting of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. However, filming at such a beautiful and historical location meant there were numerous sensitivities and restrictions around the use of language and themes, and it was essential that we maintained the appropriate tone throughout the piece.

The Solution

The Aspect filming team on the day worked hard to support presenter Chris with his script and make sure he felt completely comfortable with the whole process at such a unique location. Keeping the strict filming guidelines firmly in mind, our experienced director went out of his way to ensure everyone involved was fully briefed and at ease during the shoot, allowing for a seamless, quality recording within a tight timeframe.

The Result

The result was an inspiring and informative video that truly celebrated the occasion while adhering to the rules of the shoot location. Last-minute edits meant the team had to work quickly and efficiently without compromising the quality of the content. Our M&S client was extremely happy with the video and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the wider internal team as well as those customers watching on the live stream.
